Clinic on the parade
The Klinik am Korso in Bad Oeynhausen is the only specialist clinic in Europe that exclusively treats eating disorders. It has 92 inpatient treatment places for people with eating disorders and treats around 500 - 600 patients there per year. This makes the clinic in Germany the facility with the most inpatients from these diagnosis groups (ICD-10 F50.0 - 50.9). In addition to the classic diagnostic groups bulimia (bulimia nervosa or vomiting) and anorexia nervosa, people with binge eating disorder (BED) and mentally-related overweight ( obesity ) are also treated there.
Treatment setting
The treatment is mainly carried out within open therapy groups of 8-12 people each, which together offer various forms of treatment such as the psychotherapeutic group, the structuring, nutritional and exercise therapy, the teaching kitchen and the therapy breakfast, etc. a. complete. As a rule, the relatives of the patients are also included in the treatment through relatives seminars and guided groups. There are two wards within the facility: one for adult and one for adolescent (14 years and over) patients. The facility works on a psychosomatic and psychodynamic concept in which the therapeutic community is of great importance, i.e. therapists and patients should see themselves as partners in the treatment. The treatment takes about six to ten weeks. The special feature of this clinic is the limitation of the treatment spectrum to a small diagnostic area, so that it is easier for the patient and their relatives to make social contacts, as everyone knows about the basic problem and shame boundaries are less relevant.
history
The clinic was founded in 1985 with 42 treatment places and expanded to 92 beds in 1988. It has been sponsored by the Order of St. John since 2002 . The current chief physician is Thomas J. Huber, who succeeded Georg Ernst Jacoby in 2008, who had headed the clinic since 1987.
