The Runddysse Klokkehøj ( German  "Bell Hill " ) of Bøjden (also called Bøjgden, or Fruergård) is a dolmen . It is located on Fruerlund (road) in Bøjden, near Horne in Horne Land on Funen in Denmark .

description

The chamber of "Klokkehøj", which has only survived in remains, is oriented northwest-southeast. Two bearing stones have been preserved on the northeast side, one on the southwest side (a piece has been blown off) and one at the southeast end. Immediately to the northwest of the chamber is the relocated capstone.

Inside the chamber lay an almost completely preserved skeleton of a man between the ages of 20 and 35, whose head and the upper four vertebrae were missing. They must have been removed while the tendons were still holding the skeleton together. The chamber also contained the bones of another adult and the skull of a 5 year old child. The dead in Klokkehøj were thus parts of several people.

The floor of Klokkehøj consisted of sandstone tiles , scattered mussel shells over a layer of clay and a thin layer of white burned flint . These features are known from dolmens in Mecklenburg and thus evidence of a connection across the Baltic Sea. The dolmen also has the traces of a dozen other skeletons.

Nearby is the Runddysse Tornehøj .

Individual evidence

  1. Runddysse, ( German  "Runddolmen" ) is the name commonly used in Denmark for dolmen that are located in a round hill. In contrast, dolmens lying in a rectangular mound bed are called long dolmens
