Altbronn Monastery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Altbronn Monastery (Latin Abbatia Beate Mariae de Altbronn ) was a French Trappist abbey in Ergersheim (Bas-Rhin) west of Strasbourg from 1895 to 2009 .

history

The Trappist women, who moved from the Darfeld-Rosenthal monastery to the later Oelenberg Abbey in 1825 , left this place in 1895 due to a lack of space and settled in Ergersheim with 80 people. The Darfeld monastery name, which had been retained until then, was changed to the Monastery of Our Lady of Altbronn (after a pilgrimage to the nearby Altbronn Chapel, which still exists today). In 1954 they received reinforcements from the Trappist Abbey of Koningsoord . In 2009 it was moved to the Baumgarten monastery .
