Aya Nikola Monastery from the inside

The Aya Nikola Monastery is located near the city of Kıyıköy in the Kırklareli Province in western Turkey . It is considered to be one of the oldest rock monasteries in the world.

history

The monastery was built in the Byzantine Empire in the era of Emperor Justinianus I in the 6th century AD. It was built within 38 years from AD 527 to AD 565. A wooden front added in the 19th century is no longer preserved.
