Heiligkreuz Monastery (Saalburg)

The Cistercian convent Heilig Kreuz in the district of Kloster von Saalburg-Ebersdorf , Thuringia , was founded around 1310 and existed until 1544.

history

The Cistercian convent was a foundation of the House of Reuss . The conventual women came from the founding family and the regional nobility. Heiligkreuz owned 40 farms that were subject to tax. During the first Lutheran visitation on September 8, 1533, the convent included eleven nuns in addition to the abbess. Until 1544 the monastery buildings and the associated goods were sold in favor of the tax authorities .

Small remains of the towering masonry remain from the buildings.
