The monastery is located on a hill about one kilometer north of the village of Arsakan. This is also called Artawasdakan in medieval springs and is known for its hot springs.

Building description

The monastery complex consists of a church with a built-in gawit and a separate chapel. The main church Surb Astwazazin ( Armenian Սուրբ Աստվածածին , "Holy Mother of God ", western Armenian Surp Asdwadsadsin , other romanizations Surb Astvatsatsin, Surp Astvatsatsin, Surb Astuacacin, Surb Astwazazin ) was built in the 10th century in the style of a cross-domed church. There are several Armenian triangular niches in the east wall. In the 13th century, a gawit was built in front of the church. It has a rectangular floor plan. Its dome roof is supported by six interlaced arches, which in turn rest on four free-standing columns. The main entrance to the Gawit is in the south. There is another access. Both are finely worked out.

There is a small cemetery near the monastery. On the site there are some khachkars (artistically hewn memorial stones with a relief cross in the middle, which is surrounded by geometric and plant motifs). There are also some petroglyphs on the area that date back to the 3rd to 2nd millennium BC. To be dated.
