Monika Schmitz-Emans (born June 1, 1956 in Leverkusen ) is a German comparativeist and literary scholar .

Life

After studying German, philosophy, pedagogy, Italian and art studies and the first state examination for the subjects of German and philosophy, Schmitz-Emans received his doctorate in 1984 under Beda Allemann in Bonn with a thesis on the subject: Snuff knot or constellation? Jean Paul's approaches to a theory of language . From 1983 she worked as a research assistant at the German Department of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and as a lecturer at the Universities of Essen and Jena . In 1992, he completed his habilitation on writing and absence. Historical paradigms on the poetics of deciphering and writing at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Bonn. In the same year, he was appointed professor for modern European literature at the FernUniversität Hagen . In 1995 Schmitz-Emans was appointed to the chair for general and comparative literature at the Ruhr University in Bochum . Guest stays took her to the University of Notre Dame (Indiana / USA, 2002) and the University of Wisconsin – Madison (Wisconsin / USA, 2011) as Max Kade Distinguished Visiting Professor .
