Beda Allemann (born April 3, 1926 in Olten ; † August 19, 1991 in Bonn ) was a Swiss literary scholar and university professor.

Life

Allemann studied German, art history and philosophy at the University of Zurich . In 1953 he did his doctorate with Emil Staiger with a dissertation on Hölderlin and Heidegger. His habilitation was also accepted in Zurich in 1955. He then taught as a lecturer at the Free University of Berlin , as a lecturer at the École normal supérieure in Paris (1957–1958), at the same time as Paul Celan , as a senior academic and private lecturer in Leiden (1959–1963), as an adjunct professor in Kiel ( 1963/64) and as a professor in Würzburg (1964–1967). From 1967 to 1991 he was professor for German literature at the University of Bonn . Allemann was co-editor of the first edition of Paul Celan's work, which was published by Suhrkamp Verlag. His research related in particular to Hölderlin, Heinrich von Kleist, Jean Paul, Franz Kafka and Rainer Maria Rilke.

Since 1977 he has been a member of the German Academy for Language and Poetry .
