Neukirchen Monastery by the Holy Blood

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The monastery Neukirchen bei Heiligen Blut is a monastery of the Franciscan Reformates in Neukirchen bei Heiligen Blut in Bavaria in the diocese of Regensburg.

history

The monastery, consecrated to St. Katharina , was founded in 1656 by the Bavarian Reformate Province of the Franciscans on the site of one of the most important Bavarian pilgrimages to the Virgin Mary and was initially a hospice , from 1661 a convent . There was no repeal in the course of secularization , the monastery was set up as a central monastery in 1802 . In 1855 the monastery was officially rebuilt.

In 2000, the north wing of the monastery, which had not been used for a long time, was converted into the "Cross-border pilgrimage, meeting and environmental education center at the Franciscan monastery Neukirchen b.Hl.Blut". The common name for this center, however, is "House for sowing". Since then, the “Supporting Association for the Cross-Border Pilgrimage and Meeting Center Neukirchen b.Hl.Blut eV”, chaired by Father Raymund, has been responsible for this area. The monastery belonged to the Bavarian Franciscan Province for a long time , but is now inhabited by Polish Franciscans.

In 2008 the cloister garden, which was previously inaccessible to the public, was extensively redesigned and opened as the “Franciscan cloister garden”. The 1.6-hectare monastery garden adjoins the "House for sowing". The theme of “preservation of creation” (environmental protection) is illustrated in different ways in this garden: Biblical plants thrive here as well as medicinal plants in the apothecary garden . Visits only possible with a guide.
