The São Paulo de Frades Monastery (Sancti Pauli de Frades; originally Almaziva) is a former Cistercian abbey in the Coimbra district in Portugal , around 6.5 km northeast of Coimbra .
history
The monastery, initially a Benedictine foundation from around 1163, is said to have come to the Cistercian order in 1220 as a gift from Fernando Peres and to have been subordinated to the Alcobaça monastery . So it belonged to the filiation of the Clairvaux Primary Abbey . In 1543 the monastery stood empty but was revived and the buildings were renovated in 1595, 1689 and 1743. At the latest with the dissolution of the monastery in 1834, this monastery also came to an end.

The church is used as a parish church. The partially preserved monastery complex is to the right (south) of the church.
