The monastery Sever (São Tiago de Sever) is a former Cistercian abbey on the river Varosa in the town of Sever do Vouga in Aveiro District in Portugal.

history

The monastery is said to have been rebuilt in 1135 by the abbot of the then Benedictine monastery of Tarouca , João Cirita, on the old monastery grounds (a previous monastery had perished in 1095) and to have joined the Cistercian order with Tarouca. Doing so should the filiation of the Branch Clairvaux have listened. In any case, the monastery still existed in 1340. With the other Portuguese Cistercian monasteries, it was likely to have been dissolved in 1834 at the latest, unless it had perished earlier.
