Spielberg Monastery is a former Franciscan monastery in the municipality of Oberschweinbach in Upper Bavaria .

history

Spielberg Monastery stands on the remains of the former Spielberg Castle , the origin of which goes back to 1150. Today's palace complex, which was the seat of a Hofmark , was built in 1624 and rebuilt around 1750 in the Rococo style. In 1899 Franciscan nuns from Reutberg Monastery acquired the castle from the Giggenbach family and set up a chapel and a home for the elderly. In 1998 the community of Oberschweinbach bought the monastery area, the remaining sisters went back to Reutberg.
