Spielberg Castle

Spielberg Castle is a castle that was part of the former Spielberg Monastery in Spielberg (Kajetanweg 5). It is located in a district of the municipality of Oberschweinbach in the Bavarian district of Fürstenfeldbruck and is the successor to a castle at this point.

Around 1150 a castle was built by the lords of Spielberg on the site of today's castle . A Baroness von Lerchenberg is named as the later owner . In 1624 the castle was demolished and a rococo -style castle was rebuilt, which was Hofmark . In 1899, Franciscan nuns from Reutberg Monastery bought the castle and set up a chapel and a home for the elderly. In 1998 the municipality of Oberschweinbach bought the monastery area.

The neighboring castle chapel of St. Cajetan was built in 1588 and two side chapels were added at the end of the 17th century.

Today the area is registered by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments as a landmark ground monument D-1-7732-0149 "Underground parts of the medieval castle and the early modern castle with late medieval chapel in the area of the Spielberg monastery" .
