The Franciscan monastery in Reutberg is a monastery of the Terziarinnen of the Franciscans in Sachsenkam in Bavaria in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising . Due to its idyllic location above the Kirchsee and a beautiful beer garden with mountain views, it is a popular destination. The monastery and church buildings are registered as architectural monuments in the Bavarian list of monuments.

history

The monastery with the patronage of the Annunciation was founded in 1618 by Johann Jakob and Anna von Papafava , court lords of Reichersbeuern and Sachsenkam, initially as a Capuchin convent . The members of the order switched to the Franciscan Sisters in 1651 and were incorporated into the Bavarian Franciscan Province . It ran a famous pharmacy since 1668. The monastery was dissolved in 1803 in the course of secularization . The church and monastery building were preserved. On August 2, 1835, King Ludwig I of Bavaria allowed the re-establishment of the monastery and the establishment of a girls' school , which existed from 1837 to 1958.

At the beginning of the 20th century the nun Fidelis Weiß lived and worked in the monastery . Her mystical experiences became known after her death in 1923 . In 1936 the beatification process was initiated. Since then she has been venerated there and commemorated with a special grave.

The monastery church was renovated in 1960, a new, urgently needed renovation is being sought by the association "Friends of Reutberg Monastery".

Monastery brewery

On 23 October 1924, the existing since 1677 was elected to succeed brewery of the Franciscan Sisters a Brauereigenossenschaft established based on the Reutberg. The founder was Pastor Alois Daisenberger from Reichersbeuern with farmers from Sachsenkam and Reichersbeuern. The threatened liquidation in 1987 could be averted, so that the monastery brewery Reutberg is one of the few remaining brewery cooperatives in Bavaria. In 2015, 21,160 hl of beer were produced.
