Ernest Denis
Ernest Denis (born January 3, 1849 in Nîmes , † January 4, 1921 in Paris ) was a French historian.
Denis worked as a professor at the University of Paris Sorbonne. His subject of research was Eastern European history with a focus on the history of the Czechs. He was an important supporter of the statehood of the Czech people. Denis founded the “Comité national d'études” , together with Louis Eisenmann and Louis Léger , which stood up for the independence of the Czech Republic. He was also a member of a French research group, the “Comité d'études” (German: “Study Commission”), which dealt with research into the Saar and the Rhineland . He was a friend of the future Czech President Eduard Benesch .
