The neo-Romanesque brick building of the monastery and the monastery church Maria Hilf north of the old town of Cham in the Upper Palatinate was built by the order of the Redemptorists according to plans by Ludwig von Stempel .

In 1900 the construction of the church and the monastery began. After long negotiations, the founder of the monastery, Fr. Josef Schleinkofer, was able to start building the large complex with the monastery church, the Redemptorist monastery and the retreat house. After two years of construction, the monastery and church were completed. Then the retreat house began. Brother Max Schmalzl painted the church. In 1909 the monastery church was established by the Regensburg bishop Anton von Henlesolemnly inaugurated. Over the years, the monastery church has been renovated several times, both indoors and outdoors. The retreat house experienced several additions and was renovated in the 80s and 90s and brought up to today's standards. The old monastery building was sold to the district in 1989. Today the Cham district music school is located in these rooms . The premises of the monastery are now housed in the building part of the retreat house.
