Klostermühle Salbke

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Salbke monastery mill was a water mill on the Sülze in the village of Salbke, which today belongs to the city of Magdeburg .

geography

The watermill was located roughly where the Magdeburg – Leipzig railway line crosses the Sülze today . Further upstream was the vicariate mill , of which a mill farm has been preserved.

history

The mill was built in the 12th century by the Magdeburg monastery of Our Lady . With the Salbke monastery property, the monastery had further extensive property in the village.

At the beginning of the 18th century, Nikolaus Nikolai was the tenant of the mill. He turned vehemently against the same before Westerhüsen planned 1712 construction of the ship mill Westerhüsen . Nikolai complained to the provost of the monastery and above all criticized the fact that he had been forbidden to collect grain from his customers from Westerhüsen. Because customers had to bring their goods to Salbke themselves, the Westerhüsen company wanted to improve the competitiveness of their newly built mill. Nikolai ignored the ban, whereupon in March 1715 the Westerhüser Schöppe Martin Böckelmann confiscated the monastery miller 's horse cart and goods in front of the community jug in Westerhüsen. There was a court case in which the Klostermüller was able to prevail in the judgment of December 5, 1716. He was then allowed to drive back to the Westerhüser customers. In practice, however, the Westerhüser business was lost for him in the long run, as the local population preferred their own mills.

In the course of the construction of the railway line, inaugurated in 1839, the railway company acquired the mill. In a report from 1842, the mill is described as existing but already owned by the railway company.
