Klucharyov and Alimushkin

Klutscharjow und Alimuschkin ( Russian Ключарёв и Алимушкин / Klutscharjow i Alimuschkin ) is a story by the Russian writer Vladimir Makanin from 1977. The translation into German by Alexander Kaempfe was published by Neue Malik Verlag in 1985 in Kiel.

Vladimir Makanin tells a modern fairy tale about the antipodes Klutscharjow and Alimuschkin - two seasoned intellectuals from Moscow. Unfortunately, unlucky Alimuschkin, a “finished engineer”, has lost both his cheerfulness and his zest for life. Because he had trouble in the office and his "very beautiful wife", Alimuschkina, has "irrevocably left" the poor man. Things are going down with him. After a heart attack, he becomes bedridden and the crying mother has to be fetched from Ryazan for nursing . Vladimir Makanin did not prove Alimushkin with a single positive feature. He is a poor chess player. His friend Klucharyov easily defeats him several times. Speaking of friends - Klucharyov only pretends to be a friend. In reality, Klucharyov's wife was pestering the husband: Alimushkin is not doing well. Klucharyov's sick visit is required. The woman heard about the illness from her friend, with whom she had long phone calls.

Klucharyov works at a scientific institute. Vladimir Makanin assumes that the protagonist Klucharyov is a mathematician. In any case, Klucharyov and his family are haunted by luck. Lucky Klucharev does not understand why Alimushkin is so unlucky in this connection and asks God about it. The Almighty evades: “There is simply not enough luck there.” Klutscharjow, this lucky Hans, can even afford to refuse his promotion at the institute for the time being. However, towards the end of the story, he lets himself be named head by the employee. When the sick visits to "Freund" Alimuschkin, which his wife had warned about, became too much for the newly minted manager, he took his wife's telephone partner and put an end to the spook. The phone operator with the big butt has to believe his wife on the phone that Alimushkin flew to Madagascar .

The fairy-tale material seems almost banal, but the form has it all. For example, Vladimir Makanin builds up expectations that, after all, hardly allow any unsuccessfulness of Klucharyov. Even more so, when the Alimushkina follows Klucharyov's instructions at the end of the narrow text - get herself a lover again - the attentive reader can infer from the Klucharyov-Alimushkina dialogue that this very beautiful woman wants Klucharyov to be the second beau. Klucharyov only received his doctorate , but his rival is habilitation .
