New Malik publishing house

The New Malik Verlag was founded in 1983 in Kiel from Slavic Thies Ziemke as politically left-leaning publisher of literature in the tradition of Malik publishing house founded (1916 to 1947).

The founder of the Malik publishing house Wieland Herzfelde suggested the name: “Call it Neuer Malik Verlag”. One of the first publications was Else Lasker-Schüler's Der Malik , which also played an important role in founding the original Malik publishing house. The word comes from Arabic and means "king".

The bookseller Hans-Joachim “Jo” Hauberg and the librarian and translator Giuseppe de Siati became other publishing partners besides Thies Ziemke. The authors include a. Hans-Jürgen Heise and Rafik Schami , there were also good contacts to the Russian literary scene, including Vladimir Makanin .

In 1996 the publisher was sold to Piper Verlag . Travel literature is published under the imprint "Malik Verlag" and "Malik National Geographic" .
