The Knappschafts-Krankenhaus is a hospital in the Steele district of Essen .
history
The foundation stone was laid in 1924. The house was opened by the Federal Miners' Union in 1927. Gynecology accounted for about a quarter of the beds . Three quarters of the beds were in what was then the largest internal medicine department in Germany with a focus on lung diseases, especially tuberculosis and silicosis .
In 1990, the Geriatrics Clinic was opened as a third focus . In 1990 the Clinic for Naturopathy and Integrative Medicine took up patient care as a fourth focus. A new building and the exercise pool on the premises were inaugurated in July 2001.
In 1995 the house was taken over by the "Essen-Mitte Evangelical Huyssens Foundation ".
