View of the Knottnkino

The Knottnkino , also known as the Knottenkino, is a specially designed vantage point on the porphyry rock Rotsteinkogel at 1465  m above sea level near the South Tyrolean town of Vöran above Burgstall . "Knottn" means "rock" in the South Tyrolean dialect.

The Knottnkino, which was created in 2000 by metal designer and artist Franz Messner (1952–2017) from Klobenstein am Ritten , consists of 30 weatherproof folding armchairs made of stainless steel and chestnut wood. They serve as an invitation to the hiker to take a seat and enjoy the view in the changing light with floating clouds like in a cinema where nature is the director. In this way, depending on the weather, wind, visibility and brightness, there is a constantly changing view of the Adige Valley with the Merano basin including side valleys and adjacent mountains from the cinema seat .

The artist's original intention was to build a Knottnkino on the "Beimsteinknott" (Beimsteinkogel) at the turn of the millennium . Since the landowner did not agree, the "Rotsteinknott" (Rotsteinkogel) not far from there was chosen as the location. Funding was ultimately provided by the South Tyrolean provincial government as part of the funding of millennium projects. The opening ceremony took place on July 28, 2001.
