Knud Lyne Rahbek (born December 18, 1760 in Copenhagen , † April 22, 1830 there ) was a Danish writer .

His first literary attempts were made during his studies in Copenhagen. In 1782 he traveled to Germany and Paris . On his return to Copenhagen he edited the monthly Minerva , which was influential in Danish literature . After being appointed professor of aesthetics in 1790, he founded the weekly newspaper Den danske Tilskuer in 1791 . In 1798 he married Karen Magareta Heger. In 1799 he gave up his professorship and became a history teacher at a private institute. In 1805 he took over the board of directors of the theater school he had initiated, and in 1809 he became a member of the theater management. In 1816 he took up his professorship for aesthetics again.

Knud Lyne Rahbek was a prolific writer and the quality of his plays is rather doubtful. His stories are of a much higher literary level. What is particularly important, however, is his influence on literary development in Denmark during his time. The work of his wife (called Kamma ) should not go unmentioned, who held a kind of literary salon in her home , in which everything of the spirit and intelligence of the Denmark of that time met.
