geography

The island forms the central part of the Aru Islands, which are only separated from each other by narrow channels. The Manoeambi River separates them in the north from the islands of Tanahbesar and Karawai, the Workai River in the south from Maikoor , Lorang and Murai (from west to east). The other two main islands of the archipelago are Trangan in the south and Tanahbesar (Wokam), Trangan is larger than Kobroor. New Guinea is 175 km to the north and 365 km to the east . In the west one reaches the Kei Islands after 140 km , in the south after 585 km Australia .

Trangan is 51 km long and 57 wide, the coastline is 229.8 km long. The island is very flat, reaching 124 meters at its highest point. Its coast is indented by many bays and canals and has many offshore islands. What is striking is a large canal in the east that extends 15 km into the interior.
