Cofferdam (salvage)

A coffer dam is a watertight construction similar to a shaft, which is used to rescue sunken ships lying in shallow depths . This shaft, placed on a hatch or similar opening of a sunken watercraft, protrudes above the surface of the water, so that the damaged vessel, after it has been sealed, can be drained and thus lifted.
