The coal seam on Bühlach is a demonstration structure having a layer sequence with pitch coke - seams on the east side of the Bühlachs (a hill at Peiting shows).

description

The seam was exposed at this point in 1996 during the construction of the southern bypass road from Peiting as part of the federal road 472 at this point. It is the productive seam no. 2 of the Peitinger mining industry , which was closed in 1968, and thus part of the most powerful known surface of pitch coal in the eastern Bavarian region. The opening is protected from the weather and collectors by the symbolic tunnel entrance.

The outcrop lies in the front of the alpine ceiling, in the front area of the rock detached from the subsoil and transported to the north as a ceiling during the alpine mountain formation . The layer sequence consists of several layers of coal, which are separated from each other by clay marl and stink stone (a bitumen-rich , yellowish limestone ).

The location has been identified by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment (LfU) as a geoscientifically particularly valuable geotope (geotope number: 190A012). It was also awarded the official seal of approval for Bavaria's most beautiful geotopes by the LfU under the name Peitinger Pechkohle .
