Coke battery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Several coke ovens are combined to form a coke battery (coke oven battery). Here, change heating walls and coke oven off.

The so-called horizontal chamber furnaces are still in use today. A furnace chamber is several meters high and deep, but relatively narrow. Since coal is a poor conductor of heat, the coke ovens are always built as narrow chambers. The relationship between the dimensions is still given in modern coke ovens.

While the coke oven chambers at the Hansa coking plant were 12.9 m long, 4.1 m high and 41 cm (on average) wide, the coke oven chambers at the Kaiserstuhl coking plant were already 18 m long, 7.63 m high and 61 cm wide in 1992 ( on average). The coke ovens of the coking plant Schwelgern are 8.32 m high, 20.8 m long and a mean chamber width of 59 cm, the z. Currently the largest coke oven in the world.

The coke ovens are filled from above and the finished coke is pushed out to the side. The resulting raw gas is discharged into a receiver via riser pipes. The heating walls with their heating flues are located on both sides of the furnace chambers.

Horizontal battery structure

The horizontal order of a battery structure:

  1. Static wall
  2. heat protection
  3. Heating wall
  4. Coke oven chamber
  5. Heating wall
  6. Coke oven chamber
  7. ...
  8. ...
  9. Heating wall
  10. heat protection
  11. Static wall

Furthermore, each coke oven chamber has a certain conicity . This means that the chambers on the coke side are several centimeters wider than on the machine side so that the finished coke can be pushed out smoothly.

, Laying the coke ovens consists of a silica fire clay mixture which can cope with the heating walls in coke oven chambers and the high temperatures. In order to withstand the high mechanical loads that occur, cross anchors, longitudinal anchors and anchor stands made of steel are mounted on the coke oven batteries.

Vertical coke oven battery construction

The vertical order of a battery structure:

  1. Foundation plate
  2. Substructure
  3. Regenerator sole
  4. Lower furnace with regenerators
  5. False ceiling
  6. Upper furnace with furnace chambers and heating walls
  7. Oven roof

The heating technology of the batteries follows different methods of the respective furnace construction company.
