Kolliger mill

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kolliger Mühle (also Kolligermühle ) is a water mill and a place to live in the local community of Kollig in the southern Eifel .

The wheel of the Kolliger Mühle is driven by the water of the small river Elzbach , which is also called the Elz for short . Other watermills nearby are the Gehringer Mühle and the Ölmühle .

The mill probably dates from the 17th century. Improvements and extensions have been made over time, but efforts have always been made to preserve the historical prestige of the old buildings.

There are four buildings on the Kolliger Mühle site: the farm building, the house with the water wheel, a former chicken coop and a former pigsty. The former stables have been renovated and converted into apartments. The outer walls and inner partitions of the buildings are made of timber framing with slate , the roofs are covered with slate. Between the buildings there is a cobblestone courtyard with a fountain in the middle. A small chapel stands at the entrance to the site.

One of the hiking trails to Santiago de Compostela (the Way of St. James ) goes along the Kolliger mill. Pilgrims can get accommodation here for the night.
