Colosseum (cinema)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Colosseum , originally called "Wiener Colosseum", was an entertainment venue in Vienna , 9th district ( Alsergrund ), Nussdorfer Straße 4 (near the corner of Währinger Straße ) from 1898 to 2002 .

It was opened in 1898 as a variety theater, Volksbühne and Komödienhaus and has operated as a 700-seat cinema since 1925, most recently with several halls. Since the stops of several tram lines were and are located at the intersection of Nussdorfer Strasse and Währinger Strasse, the establishment was very conveniently located. In the immediate vicinity were parts of the General Hospital (AKH) , the Technological Trade Museum (a higher education institution) , university institutes and the Nussdorfer Straße market hall .

Today there is a supermarket branch in the premises.
