Combination cover

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The combination cover is a type of hand-made book cover that is bound with extensive machine support by means of machine stitching, leather sharpening and gold stamping . He combines the techniques of hand binding with those of machine bound bindings. Similar to the Franz tape, it is bound on a deep fold, the spine is not attached directly to the stitching .

It corresponds to the aesthetics and quality of the Franz tape, but is faster and cheaper to manufacture. It is also known as a binding with a “simulated deep fold”, as a “pseudo Franz band”, as an “imitation Franz band” or as a “combination French band”.

About this technique, Hermann Nitz first published About a New Binding Type at Spamer in 1923.
