Hermann Nitz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hermann Nitz ( 1881 - 1965 ) was a German bookbinder .

Life

He was a student of Paul Adam and Paul Kersten . In 1912 he was hired as an art bookbinder on the recommendation of Paul Kersten at Lüderitz & Bauer, Buchgewerbe Berlin. Since no handbinding department was established here, Nitz left Berlin and started working at Spamer in Leipzig in spring 1913, creating their art bindings for the Bugra 1914. He also worked as an art bookbinder in the handbinding departments of the large bookbindery Hübel and Denck in Leipzig, and later in Berlin even active as a bookbinder.

He was a member of the Jakob-Krauße-Bund and the master of binding art (MDE).

He wanted to use the quality of the hand binding with the help of machines for larger editions. He published, among other things, in 1923 in About a new cover type about the combination cover . He tried to transfer industrial materials, work processes and innovations to artistic hand binding. Since this was difficult to reconcile with the established art bookbinding, this led to differences with the MDE, which Nitz therefore later left.
