Komisije za istinu i pomirenje
The Komisije za istinu i pomirenje (Commission for Truth and Reconciliation) was a truth commission in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia that existed in 2002/2003.
The then President of the FR Yugoslavia, Vojislav Koštunica , ordered the establishment of a truth commission in March 2001 to investigate the social, interethnic and political conflicts that led to the war . The idea of setting up such a commission based on the South African model came from the then Foreign Minister Goran Svilanović .
As members of the Commission Koštunica appointed Radovan Bigović , Mirjana Vasovic , Tibor Varadi , Svetlana Velmar-Janković , Mihailo Vojvodić , Đorđić Vuković , Bishop Sava Vukovic , Vojin Dimitrijevic , Ljubodrag Dimić , Slavoljub Đukić , Aleksandar Lojpur , Bosko Mijatovic , Radmila Nakarada , Predrag Palavestra , Latinka Perović , Zoran Stanković , Svetozar Stojanović , Darko Tanasković and Sulejman Hrnjica .
Vojin Dimitrijević resigned at the first meeting of the commission on April 17, 2001, because he was dissatisfied with the tasks of the commission. Latinka Perović also left the commission. In the period that followed, the task was defined more precisely: by investigating human rights violations and war crimes, reconciliation was to be promoted both within the country and with the other successor states of the SFR Yugoslavia.
After the resignation of Tibor Varadi and the death of Bishop Sava, Koštunica appointed nine more members in November 2002: Mira Beham , Đorđe Vukadinović , Miomir Dasić , Mustafa Jusufspahić , Andrija Kopilović , Emir Kusturica , Ljubiša Lazarević , Slobodan Reljić and Ljililvić .
Discussions about the precise objectives of the commission led to a dispute within the commission, as some of the members wanted to investigate specific crimes, while others wanted to investigate the historical events that had led to the outbreak of war. In 2003, the Commission shut down before it could actually begin its work.
