The Königsberger General-Kommandantur was the administrative building of the city commandant of Königsberg i. Pr.

history

It was built in the years 1888/89 in the Hinterroßgarten, not far from the Königsberg castle pond, in the neo-renaissance style. A city palace, built by Duke Friedrich von Holstein-Beck in 1693 , previously stood on the same site . It was initially the building of the military city commandant and later served as the military district command . The last commandant of the Königsberg Fortress, Otto Lasch , commanded his troops from a specially built bunker under the Paradeplatz (Königsberg) , the so-called Lasch bunker . The commandant's office is the oldest of the remaining office buildings in the city. This is where the Kaliningrad interior authority is located with the residents' registration office, passport and visa department, criminal police, court files, sobering cell, and specialized criminal laboratory. The building has been a listed building since 1992. In April 2005 it was badly damaged by fire.
