Komontorios

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Komontorios ( ancient Greek Κομοντὀριος ) was a Celtic prince in the early 3rd century BC.

After the defeat of the Celts under Brennos against the Greeks at Delphi in 278 BC. In BC Komontorios took over the leadership of one of the people's clusters and led it to the Hellespont in the area around Byzantion . Instead of crossing over to Asia Minor , however, he let his people settle in Thrace , presumably under the impression that the Celts were defeated at Lysimacheia by Antigonus II Gonatas in 277 BC. After the local Thracian peoples were subjugated, Komontorios founded a residence of his Celtic principality with Tylis and became their first king. Already he made Byzantion pay tribute to the Celts. He was succeeded by Kauaros on the throne of Tylis .
