Kompan

In the high and late Middle Ages, the term Kompan was understood to mean the assistant to a ruler of the Teutonic Order from the title of Commander on , who performed administrative and executive tasks on behalf of his superior.

Compans were mostly younger knights of the order, who were to be introduced to further administrative tasks through this activity.
