Composers Quarter (Bielefeld)
The composers' quarter is a district in the extreme south-east of Bielefeld's Mitte district. This is neither politically nor officially structured, but is usually still divided into districts. The composer's quarter is an old building quarter, which runs parallel to Detmolder Strasse, which borders the north, and lies between this and the Teutoburg Forest to the south with the Sparrenburg . It is therefore on a mountain slope. The quarter is characterized by its many centuries-old city villas, some of which are equipped with half-timbered gables and round corner towers. It largely coincides with the “Brand's Busch” statistical district. Most of the streets were named after famous composers.
Many of the villas on Detmolder Strasse are now home to law firms.
history
The composer's quarter and its villas were much larger at the time and had impressive front gardens and entrance portals. With the construction and enlargement of Detmolder Straße to the four-lane main traffic axis, however, many parts of the property had to give way and those villas that are located in the extreme north of the district directly on Detmolder Straße have unfortunately lost some of their structural fabric over the decades. Blackened facades and cracks in the walls shape the picture. The remaining monuments in the quarter, which are not directly on the main street, are not affected by this.
Over the past few years, the residents of the houses on Detmolder Strasse have become increasingly dissatisfied and have described the street as "ugly, loud and dangerous". The street is characterized by vacancies and demolished ruins and houses both a StadtBahn route and four lanes for cars.
location
The district is bordered in the south by the Teutoburg Forest mountain range and in the north by Detmolder Straße. It is very elongated and extends from west to east from the old town to the limits of Sieker , where it is replaced by a large prefabricated building complex.
traffic
The StadtBahn line 2 (Altenhagen - Sieker) drives behind the old town at the regional court at the beginning of the Detmolder Straße and continues its journey from there to the final stop. It stops at the stops “August-Bebel-Straße”, “Teutoburger Straße”, “Mozartstraße” and “Prießallee” until it finally reaches its final stop, “Sieker” in the district of the same name, just beyond the borders of the district.
