Petra-Electric
Petra-Electric ( original spelling petra-electric ) is a German manufacturer of small household appliances such as kettles and coffee machines .
The company was founded on September 1st, 1968 by Peter Hohlfeldt in Burgau near Günzburg , Bavaria . For the company name, he chose the first name of his eldest daughter and added the name Electric to avoid confusion (and legal disputes) with the women's magazine Petra .
The company was initially located in the rooms of Hohlfeldt's father-in-law, but in February 1973 the company moved to a new building in Unterknöringen .
In 1989 the traditional Grossag brand was taken over.
In its heyday, the company employed 350 people.
In 2007 the company was sold to a group of investors, and in 2008 it was taken over by WMF . In August 2011, the production facility in Unterknöringen was closed and sales moved to Jettingen-Scheppach . In 2013 the company was sold to the Dutch company Tristar Europe. The company founder died in 2017.
Devices such as the WK 288.00 kettle, which used to be made in Germany, are now made in China.
