Conference of European National Librarians

The Conference of European National Librarians ( CENL of English Conference of European National Librarians ) is a foundation under Dutch law and was founded in the 1987th The aim is to promote cooperation between the European national libraries and to strengthen their role in Europe, with particular emphasis on maintaining the national cultural heritage and ensuring access to this knowledge.

CENL members are the directors of all national libraries of the member states of the Council of Europe . The conference currently consists of 48 members from 45 European countries (as of November 2019).

CENL operates The European Library ( The European Library ). Numerous projects are financially supported by the European Commission .

The office is located in London.
