The Konica FS-1 is a reflex camera introduced by Konica in 1979 and was the world's first SLR camera with a built-in motor drive for film transport.

technical features

The technical development of SLR cameras received new impulses at the end of the 1970s and the Konica FS-1 also offered a number of innovations compared to its predecessor, the Autoreflex T4 , such as the already mentioned built-in motorized film transport, an electronically controlled shutter, the new Autoload system for films and the new control of a flash directly from the camera. However, with the FS-1 Konica did without some previously existing features, so that the camera lacks a stop-down button and the eyepiece cover (for long exposures) and multiple exposures are also not possible.

All Konica Hexanon lenses from 1965 (introduction of the AR bayonet) can be mounted on the AR bayonet of the FS-1. There were adapter rings for older F bayonet lenses.

The exposure of the FS-1 is controlled either manually by preselecting the aperture on the lens and the exposure time on the setting wheel at the top right next to the viewfinder prism or by automatic aperture . For this purpose, the aperture ring on the lens is set to AE and the exposure time is selected so that the pointer of the exposure meter in the viewfinder is in the range of the permissible aperture values for the lens used.

The viewfinder has a micro prism and a cross-sectional image indicator to determine the focus. The sensitivity of an inserted film must be set manually in the range from ISO 100 to 3200.

When using the Konica system flash X-24, the camera automatically sets itself to an exposure time (flash sync time) of 1/100 s and the aperture is selected according to the setting on the flash (5.6 or 11). All other flashes must be synchronized with 1/60 s and set completely manually.

equipment

Accessories offered by Konica for the FS-1 included, among other things, remote releases in various cable lengths or wireless, which were screwed to the new system connection at the front due to the new electronic lock, an angle viewfinder and ever-ready case in a new design.

Hints

With the introduction of motor drives and electronic controls in cameras, rechargeable batteries have become increasingly popular as a reusable replacement for the batteries that were previously used. The FS-1 is very sensitive to the lower voltages of rechargeable batteries and should always be operated with batteries, otherwise the electronics can be damaged.
