Paul J. Hergenrother

Paul J. Hergenrother (born June 6, 1972 in Akron , Ohio ) is an American chemist .

Hergenrother earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1994 and completed his PhD in chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin in 1999 . From 1999 to 2001 he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Chair of Chemistry and Biochemistry with Stuart Schreiber at Harvard University . In 2001 he was appointed professor at the University of Illinois . In 2008 he received the Eli Lilly Award in Biological Chemistry .

He works in the field of natural product synthesis and the search for cancer drugs. The compounds he synthesizes include PAC-1 , deoxyboquinone (DNQ), and deoxynybomycin (DMN).
