The Konica Corporation was a traditional Japanese company from the photo industry that was founded in Tokyo in 1873 . It was listed on the Nikkei 225 .

In 2003 Konica and Minolta Co., Ltd. the new company Konica Minolta Holdings, Inc. The merger was completed in January 2004.

Konica's German center for photo products was located in Hohenbrunn near Munich ; The products of the photo division included color films, cameras, minilabs, medical imaging systems and digital editing and storage technologies.

In 1873 Rokusaburo Sugiura began trading photographic and lithographic products in Kojimachi, Tokyo, near Konishiya Rokubeiten. The business was renamed Konishi Honten in 1879 . In 1882, "Konishi Honten" made Japan's first feature film. In 1923 the "Konishi Photo School" was founded, from which the "Tokyo University of Industrial Arts" later emerged. In 1936 the company "Konishiroku Honten" became a joint stock company , which in 1943 was renamed "Konishiroku Photo Industry Co., Ltd.". In 1956 the company became "Koniphoto Corporation" in Philadelphia , PA, USA. and six years later the company "Konica Europe Zentrums" was founded in Hamburg . In 1973, “Konishiroku Photo Industry” turned 100 years old and celebrated its existence, a new company symbol and logo was introduced. In 1987 the company was renamed "Konica Corporation" and thus all product names were combined under the brand name "Konica". In 1998 the "Konica Color Imaging Corporation" was founded. In 2003 "Konica" merged with Minolta .

Konica started manufacturing cameras in 1882. In 1903, Japan's first photo paper was manufactured by Konica. In the same year, Japan's first branded camera ( Cherry Hand Camera ) was introduced. In 1929 the company introduced the first black and white film in Japan. In 1930 the compact, half-format folding camera Baby-Pearl was introduced. The first color film in Japan was introduced in 1941 under the name ( Sakura Natural Color ). In 1948 Konica introduced the first 35mm brand camera ( Konica I ).

In 1963, the world's first 35mm camera with automatic exposure and CdS exposure metering ( Konica Auto S ) came onto the market. This was followed in 1965 by the first SLR camera with an automatic exposure system ( Konica Auto-Reflex ) and in 1968 the first camera in the world with TTL automatic exposure ( Konica Autoreflex 35 mm FTA ). The first compact camera with an integrated flash unit and automatic exposure control ( Konica C35EF ) was launched in 1975. Its successor with passive autofocus ( Konica C35AF ) came onto the market in 1977.

In 1978 the world's first 35mm compact camera with automatic data imprinting ( Konica C35EFD ) was presented. In 1979 the world's first 35mm SLR camera with a built-in motor for film transport ( Konica FS-1 ) came onto the market. In 1985, the Konica TC-X was the first 35mm camera that could read the newly introduced DX code for automatic film speed setting. The TC-X was the last SLR camera to carry a Konica logo and was already made as a commissioned work at Cosina . Konica built the full color photographic copier ( Konica Color 7 ), which was introduced to the market in 1986. A year later, Konica's first single-use camera came out. In 1989, the world's smallest fully automatic compact camera ( Konica Big Mini ) was introduced by Konica.

In 1991 the world's first three-color copier / fax machine ( Konica KF8028 ) was presented by Konica. A year later, the high-quality Hexar viewfinder camera with a fast lens 2.0 / 35 mm followed, which is the quietest viewfinder camera in the world on the market. In 1995, the Konica Picture MD System was developed in cooperation between Konica and Sony Corporation . In 1996 the APS camera Konica Super Big Mini BM-S 100 and the film scanner Konica Qscan were presented. In 1997 Konica presented its Konica QM 100 digital camera to the public. In 1998, a drive for optical magnetic 3.5 "disks was ( OMD-9060 pictured) with a storage capacity of 640 MB on the market.
