Konkan

Konkan is the name for a coastal region in western India between the Arabian Sea and the mountain range of the Western Ghats , between Alibag in the north and Mangalore in the south.

Konkan has no precisely defined boundaries, mostly the southern districts of Maharashtra , the Indian state of Goa and the northern districts of Karnataka are included. A large part of the population speaks Konkani , a language related to Marathi .

By far the largest city in the region is Mumbai (formerly Bombay).
