Pope Boniface VIII let Salzburg Archbishop Konrad IV von Fohnsdorf in a letter dated September 22, 1301 confirm Konrad or name another candidate. For political reasons, however, the archbishop chose Johann Sax von Saxenau . Konrad Waldner only remained an elected bishop and was never ordained.
