Author's picture in Codex Manesse
Konrad von Altstetten (* 12th or 13th century perhaps in Altstätten ) was a minstrel.
The von Altstetten were a ministerial family of the St. Gallen monastery . A Conrad is attested in 1235, 1268 and 1327. For stylistic reasons and because of the dating of the manuscript, one tends to exclude the references to 1235 and 1327. In any case, the coat of arms painted in the Codex Manesse matches that of the Lords of Altstetten. The picture shows the minstrel in the lady's lap with a falcon on his fist.
The Heidelberg song manuscript C (Codex Manesse) comes down to him with three songs, namely 13 stanzas in three tones on sheet 250r by the main scribe. Thematically it is about natural entrance , women's price and Minnebitte.
