Converter (welding technology)
Converters (also: sound transducers ) are electromechanical components in ultrasonic welding units . Their job is to convert the high-frequency electrical voltage provided by a generator into mechanical vibrations by using the effects of piezoelectricity or magnetostriction .
The design and assembly of converters depend on a. from the frequency of the voltage provided by the ultrasonic generator and the desired output amplitude . Converters in 20 kHz welding systems usually provide amplitudes around 10 µm .
This amplitude is usually increased by the design of the booster used in ultrasonic welding systems and by that of the sonotrode .
