Cooperative library network Berlin-Brandenburg
The Cooperative Library Association Berlin-Brandenburg (KOBV) is the union of all university libraries , all public libraries and many special libraries in Berlin and Brandenburg .
history
The KOBV was set up at the Konrad-Zuse-Zentrum für Informationstechnik Berlin (ZIB) from 1997 to 2000 and institutionalized in 2001 through the signing of an agreement between the states of Berlin and Brandenburg and the ZIB. He is the successor of the Berlin-Brandenburg Library Network (BVBB). The service and development center of the KOBV is the KOBV headquarters located in the ZIB.
activity
In contrast to the other German library associations , the collaboration is limited to a minimal solution. The bibliographic data are recorded separately, and one of the largest Berlin libraries, the Berlin State Library , works together with the Common Library Association (GBV) instead of the KOBV .
The association headquarters of the KOBV operates the Internet portal of the Berlin and Brandenburg libraries, which enables users to access the information offered by many libraries. At the same time, it is the service and development center for the libraries involved and, in this function, consortial service provider for a number of library applications.
The most important KOBV internet offers include:
- KOBV portal - offers the search and online interlibrary loan in the catalogs of the KOBV libraries, the German library associations and large international libraries and associations as well as the search in other national and international electronic resources.
- KOBV full text server - offers access to the full texts of the electronic journal articles licensed in the Friedrich Althoff Consortium (FAK) (archive server; access restricted) and to the full texts of the freely accessible documents published on the regional publication servers.
- Virtual union catalogs (VK) - for researching special media or literature from special subject areas. So far VK Film, VK Judaica and VK Noten have been realized.
- Library guide - the complete online directory of the Berlin and Brandenburg libraries.
Responsibilities for interlibrary loan and interlibrary loan are divided between two institutions in Berlin and Brandenburg: the KOBV headquarters and the Berlin-Brandenburg loan center located at the Central and State Library Berlin (ZLB). The KOBV-Zentrale realizes the technical implementation of the automated interlibrary loan and the online interlibrary loan for end users: It operates the interlibrary loan server and the interlibrary loan software, provides technical support for the interlibrary loan libraries and carries out the billing. The lending center is u. a. responsible for the admission of new libraries to interlibrary loan, the maintenance of the official interlibrary loan list and the organization of the book car service.
Cooperations
The KOBV cooperates with the Friedrich-Althoff-Konsortium eV (FAK). Scientific institutions from the states of Berlin and Brandenburg have joined forces in the FAK to provide their users with scientific information from electronic publications.
In December 2007, the Bavarian Library Association and the Berlin-Brandenburg Cooperative Library Association agreed a strategic alliance. The agreement provides for the joint development of innovative services and the establishment of a joint network database.
