Roma basket weaver museum (Komotini)

The Roma basket weaver museum ( Greek Μουσείο Καλαθοπλεκτικής των Ρωμά Mousío Kalathoplektikís ton Romá ) is a museum of folk art in the village of Thrylorio ( Θρυλόριο ) in the northern Greek municipality of Komotini .

The museum was founded in 1995 by the Thrace Society and shows the traditional basket-weaving handicraft of the various Roma groups from areas of Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey . Materials and tools as well as the manufacturing process are exhibited. A wide variety of wickerwork is exhibited in other rooms and there is a workshop.

In addition, basketry by Greeks, Pomaks , Bulgarians and Turks from the greater region of Thrace as well as examples of basketry by Greeks from the Black Sea area are shown.

The exhibits include the smallest basket in the world, a healing basket and a lucky basket.
