Basket cell

As glomerulus in are cerebellar cortex of vertebrates interneurons referred to in the molecular layer proximal to the Purkinje cell layer lying. They have many properties in common with the stellate cells of the cerebellum, the other interneurons of the molecular layer, which, however , lie further distal from the Purkinje cell layer.

Basket cells are innervated by parallel fibers glutamatergic . They have both ionotropic ( AMPA receptor and NMDA receptor ) and metabotropic glutamate receptors (especially mGluR1 ). Similar to the Purkinje cells, repetitive (salvo-like) parallel fiber discharge in basket cells (and stellate cells) produces a slow mGluR1-mediated postsynaptic potential .
