List of domestic dogs

The Korea Jindo Dog ( 진돗개 Jindot-gae ) is an FCI recognized dog breed from Korea ( FCI Group 5, Section 5, Standard No. 334 ). In Korea it is called Jindo-gae or Jindo-kyon. Gae and Kyon are names for dog .

Origin and history

The exact origin of the Jindo is unknown, but most theories agree that it was originally from Korea. For centuries the Jindo dog was only known on the island of Jindo in southwest Korea . Due to its island location, its distribution area was limited to this for a long time. Export was and is forbidden. There it is under nature and species protection.

In 1938 the breed was declared a national animal. In Korea only the colors white and red are recognized, the islanders also appreciate the black, black-brown and red-white as good hunters.

Some Koreans smuggled such dogs into the United States in the mid-1980s .

behavior

The Jindo is a hunting and guard dog . He is a confident and loyal, very trusting dog in the family. He is easy to train and docile, forms a very close bond , but takes a long time to get used to a new owner. The Jindo defends house, farm and family and shows strong protective behavior. It must therefore be socialized early on to people, pets and children. The breed also shows pronounced hunting behavior.

description

The eyes are almond-shaped, dark brown and rather small, with the outside pointing towards the ears. The tail is either curled or carried like a sickle over the back.
