The Korgialenios Library ( Greek Κοργιαλένειος Βιβλιοθήκη Korgialenios Vivliothiki ) is a library and a museum in Argostoli on Kefalonia . The institution goes back to a foundation by Marinos Korgialenios .

history

In his will, Marinos Korgialenios ordered the establishment of a library in Argostoli. This was founded in 1924. The building was partially destroyed in 1940 and in the earthquake of 1953, so the books had to be relocated. In 1963 the rebuilt building could be moved into again.

A lending library has also existed since around 2000, but formally it is not part of the foundation, as the lending of books was explicitly excluded in the will.

In addition to the library, an archive on the history of the Ionian Islands and Kefalonia was created, a large part of which is donated.

Local museum

The cellar has been converted into a local museum, alongside the Archaeological Museum of Kefalonia and the Cosmetatos Foundation, it is one of the three larger museums in the city.
