The corkscrew museum is located in the historic old town of Burkheim , a district of Vogtsburg in the Kaiserstuhl .

Around 400 corkscrews from the total of 1,200 exhibits are on display, as well as modern designer pieces and historical exhibits from the 350-year history of these accessories, which are important for enjoying wine, and other exhibits that have to do with wine. The museum is located on two floors in the barn of the historic winegrower's house, which is about as old as the history of the corkscrew. A shop is connected in the front building, in which articles related to kitchen, bar and wine are offered. The museum is the only one of its kind in Germany and was founded in 2003 by Bernhard Maurer.

In 2008 the property, which is somewhat hidden in Kirchgässle in the old town, was energetically renovated and expanded. Since then, readings and vernissages have also been held in the museum rooms; in July 2010, for example, Peter Gaymann was a guest.

Another corkscrew museum with 1000 copies exists in the vaulted cellar Gasthof Löwen in the municipality of Worb in Switzerland. In Montuïri on Mallorca , the German Hans-Joachim Holze († 2008) also ran a corkscrew museum on his Finca Son Bages , which showed 1000 exhibits from his 3000 collection. However, it has since been closed and the exhibits are gradually being sold.
